So, you’ve decided to get new carpet for your home, and the installation date is fast approaching. Prepping your space before the carpet fitters arrive helps to ensures a smoother installation process for you and the fitters. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get your home ready for the big day.

1. Clear the Room

  • Furniture: Begin by moving all furniture out of the room. This includes sofas, tables, chairs, bookcases, beds, and any other items. If you’re unable to move heavy items yourself, our team will be happy to help.
  •  Electronics: Disconnect and remove all electronics, such as televisions, computers, and stereo systems. This prevents potential damage and makes it easier for the fitters to work.

2. Removing the Old Flooring

  • In most cases the carpet fitting team will be able to take away the old flooring for you and dispose of it properly.

3. Clean the Floor

  • Vacuum or sweep the floor thoroughly to remove dust, dirt, and any other debris before it is removed. This ensures a clean base for your new carpet.

4. Door Considerations

  • Check if your doors will be able to swing freely over the new carpet. Sometimes, the added height of the carpet means doors need to be trimmed. If you suspect this might be the case, it’s a good idea to have a plan in place, either to do it yourself or hire a professional.

5. Set the Temperature

  • On the day of the installation, ensure your home is at a normal temperature. If you have underfloor heating, turn it off well in advance.

6. Make Space for the Fitters

  • Ensure there’s a clear path from the entrance of your home to the room where the carpet will be installed. This makes it easier for the fitters to carry tools and the carpet roll.
  • If possible, provide a parking space close to your home for the fitters. This can greatly speed up the installation process.

7. Plan for Kids and Pets

  • For safety reasons, it’s best to keep children and pets away from the installation area. Consider setting up a playdate, or keeping pets in a different room or outside during the fitting process.

8. Be Available

  • Stay home during the installation or ensure an adult decision-maker is present. The fitters might have questions or need clarification on your preferences.

By following these steps, you’re ensuring a smoother, faster, and more efficient carpet installation. A well-prepared room can make a significant difference in the overall experience, leading to quicker completion and less stress.
